My Dogs decided that the pool for the Fisher Price need no longer exist and I ended up 3D scanning the outer portion and then designing a new one that was similar. This fits snugly into the green part and can fit one of the people in it.

This customer is very interested and involve in VW Vanogans and asked me to 3D scan this protective shaft collar. The history behind this is that the shaft collar is unique to 1988 Vanogans and is no longer manufactured. This piece has lots of thin features that are about 1 mm thick and are hard for a scanner like mine. I had an earlier job that ended up not working out but taught me some interesting lessons and techniques for a thin walled item.
Using these lessons and techniques I was able to get a good enough file to start using CAD software. Initially, I tried combining the two scans in CAD software but decided that modeling this myself would be easier. In the last photos you can see an example of Version 2 (red) compared to the original (Black). This ended up going through another iteration to get a little more accurate on some of the features.
